T net sports service learning
Waited very long for out dotbox updates? Did your neck grew longer? Thirsty for more stories of our events? Now here's a combo update of 2 of our events: Perfect Potion Roadshow and Tnet Sports and Service Learning Camp.

Tnet Sports and Service Learning Camp
Location: Aloha Changi – Fairy Point Bungalow 2
People involved: Chengze, Serene Yeo, Serene Tay, Hui Ling

Early in the morning, our members met in the office at Little India to double check on the things which are to be brought to the camp. Also, loads of thanks to Chengze’s mum for the food provided. At about 10.30am, off we go to Aloha Changi!

Reached our destination at around 11am and took a look around the place. It was lucky of us to meet the cleaner uncle there, who allowed us to put our bag into the chalet first before we book in the chalet. At around 11.30, the campers arrived, got them to settle down and our program started which was 30min earlier than planned.

Our first program of the day is ice breaking games and the first ice breaking game would be “draw you life journey”. See the campers sitting down so engrossed in the game? Not only are they so serious in their thoughts, they are also having fun in it! ^-^

Not only are the campers engrossed in the game, our teachers and facilitators are also engrossed in their ‘life journey’.

This is the completed version of our dear dotbox member’s life journey and next, shall be the presentation of our camper’s journey.

This is our facilitator presenting her life journey.

After the facilitator had presented, it’s the camper’s turn to tell us more about themselves (and that include their teacher).

Next will be the “let’s move clockwise” game. The girls were quite afraid to sit on their peer’s leg initially for fear of hurting them but in the end, they found a way of doing so. Can you see how to the campers are all stacked up together? I’m sure they are having their fun.

Coming up next will be the code breaker! As you can see, the participants are trying means and ways to get their message across.

See this bucket of things? No no no… it’s not some bucket of rubbish, neither is the focus of this picture on the toilet paper or paper. So what is this bucket for? Bet you can’t guess it. It’s the lunch of our campers!

After their lunch, we’ll continue with our program of the day. Who says lectures are boring? If that’s what you think, then you are mistaken. Looking at the intense attention given by our campers, one would know it is because of our unique teaching style that captures such attention.

Is this part of the lecture? Nope. We’ve come to an end of the service learning lecture and back to games. This is one of the team building games, named rescue me, which tests the teams on their reasoning skills.

Following that is “mine bomb” and “photohunt”. For the safety of our camera from the ‘fatal’ water, no photos were taken for mine bomb. In addition, no photos were taken for photohunt too as the campers were constantly on the move in search of the photos. With all the frenzy going about, photo-taking would be considered impossible. However, you can see from the reflections which the campers made that they do enjoy both games.

Now, it’s time for food!! don’t worry, although we gave them plain porridge for lunch, no way are we ill treating them for dinner. Dinner would be a sumptuous buffet from Gim Tim. Above are the left over food from the buffet. *please do not drool*

Time for another workshop! This time, it’s anatomy and physiology. After the workshop, it will be back to games: “150sec no NG” and “Treasure Hunt”.

Soon, it’s time for bath and then, supper for our happy but exhausted campers. At around 12.30, lights off!

2nd day, we work up at 6.15am for morning PT. this is to promote a healthy lifestyle for our campers. Following PT would be breakfast and the combine workshop of team building and injury management and prevention.

Our lecture not only includes teachings from the facilitators but also interaction between our campers and facilitators in terms of presentation on the campers’ finding.

Next up would be outdoor cooking. The results of the team building games played on the first day would determine how much canned food they got for the outdoor cooking. At around 1pm, it mark the end of the camp. We got the campers to do some reflections and of they go, home sweet home~! :)
Lastly, let's give a round of applause to Chengze, Serene Yeo, Serene Tay, Hui Ling and Leon for the success of this camp. Of course, not forgetting Kiat Seng, Mr Tay, Jonathan and the campers from Queensway Secondary School too in contributing to the success. Thanks everyone!!
